UAE demands eco-friendly construction projects

Gulf International Trading Group featured both its Aluflam fire resistant doors and windows and Romag bullet proof glass at the exhibition.

According to a recent report from the World Wildlife Fund, the United Arab Emirates has the highest ecological footprint in the world, with UAE residents averaging 11.9 global hectares per person. Although the green building craze has hit many of the world's developed countries, the UAE has fallen behind and must now catch up in the New Year.

The Intersec Middle East Exhibition and Conference hosted more than 700 exhibitors from over 50 countries, including local industry leader Gulf International Trading Group.

Speaking at the event, Gulf International Trading Group's chairman Mr. Khalid Mohammed Al Midfa said "With the advances in technology now available to us, high quality and eco-friendly products are no longer mutually exclusive. We have to think long-term and realize that if we don't build sustainable buildings now; future generations will suffer the consequences."

The Energy Information Administration reports that energy consumption in the Middle East will increase by an estimated 2.3% per year between 2004 and 2030, while the total world energy consumption will only increase 1.6% per year for the same time period. This demonstrates the urgency to develop sustainable buildings in the region that will rely on renewable energy sources.

As mandated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, all new construction projects in the UAE must now be ecologically friendly. As one of the few businesses in the region of its kind, Gulf International Trading Group aims to provide the Gulf and UAE with alternative construction products that will protect the environment while improving the quality of life of its residents.

Ines Gruslinger, show manager Intersec, said: 'We are happy that local companies, such as Gulf International Trading Group, have participated in our event this year. In terms of fire and safety products, it is nice to see not only international companies, but also local ones, as leaders in the regional green building movement.'

The company imports these novelty and high quality products and is the sole distributor within the region.
